Dr. Hartney understands that challenges in life can bring people to a place where support from a neutral and compassionate professional can make a needed difference. His treatment style is patient-centered and his approach places emphasis on rapport-building and therapeutic empathy directed at patients for self-directed problem solving.

To facilitate patient progress toward emotional health, Dr. Hartney’s theoretical orientation is Brief-Solution Focused therapeutic conversations using a cognitive-behavioral approach. His anxiety treatments utilize both cognitive and supportive strategies which include systematic desensitization, relaxation, training and imagery rehearsal. Pain management treatments include basic stress management, cognitive restructuring, focused distraction techniques as well as medication compliance and addiction monitoring.

Education:
Dr. Hartney received his PhD from Marquette University in 1985 and has more than 31 years of varied experience in clinical psychology. His personal and professional accomplishments include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Psychology. He has held the following clinical and leadership positions: Director of Psychological and Social Services at Curative Rehabilitation Center, Chief Psychologist at Midwest Clinical Services and Psychology Fellow at Curative Rehabilitation Center.

Dr. Hartney received the prestigious award as a Fulbright Scholar through Marquette University. He has also authored several publications on a variety of behavioral health topics.
